In this episode, Rick shares how developing routines have contributed to successful results, how his superpower is the ability to hustle in order to achieve success, and some of the keys of a winner's mindset. He also shares about how his time working with wounded military men and women as a trauma nurse at Walter Reed Hospital taught him that the human spirit is unconquerable. Enjoy this interview? 16: Affirmations Are Mind Nutrition - Mindset Monday with Marc Smith

The transforming power of affirmations is the focus of this Mindset Monday on The Standing O Show. As we begin to train our brain everyday to think right about ourselves in order to live a life of success, achievement, and financial rewards, the use of affirmations is like feeding our brain the mind nutrition it needs to be healthy and thrive.
Enjoy this episode? They really do matter, and I read every one of them.
Episode Notes
Hello, thanks for listening Ovation Nation! I’m your host, Marc Smith. Let’s get started on this Mindset Monday. I want to talk to you about the transforming power of affirmations! As we begin to train our brain everyday to think right about ourselves in order to live a life of success, achievement, and financial rewards, the use of affirmations is like feeding our minds the nutrition it needs to be healthy and thrive. Tia Walker says, “Affirmations are mental vitamins, providing the supplementary positive thoughts we need to balance the barrage of negative events and thoughts we experience daily.” I’ll admit that sometimes the idea of affirmations seems woo-woo, or uncomfortable. But I also know that when you develop the habit of saying affirmations that resonate with you – that have an emotional connection within you – they play a key role in improving our ability to reduce stress and focus better on problem-solving. Research from Carnegie Mellon University has determined that affirmations can protect against the damaging effects of stress on problem-solving performance. An article in Psychology Today, reports that the Carnegie Mellon study showed that an affirmation at the beginning of a stressful activity helped boost grades in underperforming children at the end of the activity. In effect it showed that affirmations can make a positive impact on problem-solving under pressure. Meister Eckhart says, "What we plant in the soil of contemplation, we shall reap in the harvest of action."
Writing Affirmations That Work
So, how do you create or write affirmations that feed your mind? Back in Episode 000, I talked about the impact Lou Tice had on me in creating a mindset for success. One of the key areas was the use of affirmations in setting goals. So, I’m going to share a little bit about what he taught me about affirmations. The first thing you want to do is imagine and skip ahead in your mind: it could be the end of a project, or whatever you want to accomplish in the next 3 months. You’re changing the picture. By changing the inside, the outside will follow. If you make the picture strong enough so that it resonates within you, your subconscious mind will help you change your behavior so that it aligns with the new you or affirmation that you’re setting. "Our life always expresses the result of our dominant thoughts.", according to Soren Kierkegaard. I want to give you a take away today, so here are 5 key parts of creating an affirmation that feeds your mind:

Set your future goal, but set it in the present like it’s happening right now and make it personal by using the word, “I”.

Keep it positive. In other words, use affirmations that speak to what you want, not what you don’t want.

Say it like you’ve achieved it. So, don’t use words like I will or I want to, or I should. 14: Finding a Coach - Mindset Monday with Marc Smith

Finding a coach is the focus for today's Mindset Monday episode on The Standing O Show. As I share more and more Standing O stories with you with entrepreneurs who have had Standing O experiences in their lives or businesses, one of the common threads in each story is the need for a coach. Every successful person has said that their business or life went to the next level when they set about finding a coach that helped them achieve new goals.
Enjoy this episode? They really do matter, and I read every one of them.
Episode Notes
Hello, thanks for listening Ovation Nation! I’m your host, Marc Smith. I want to invite you to sign up for the latest updates and behind the scenes news of The Standing O Show. Just go to standingoshow.com and get on the list today. Today, I want to talk to you about the finding a coach! As I share more and more Standing O stories with you with entrepreneurs who have had Standing O experiences in their lives or businesses, one of the common threads in each story is the need for a coach. Every successful person has said that their business or life went to the next level when they set about finding a coach that helped them achieve new goals. Bob Nardelli, as CEO of Home Depot, said “I absolutely believe that people, unless coached, never reach their full potential.” One of the definitions of coaching that I really like is that coaching is releasing your potential to maximize your own performance. It’s helping you to learn rather than to be taught. So a good coach doesn’t just teach me to do something. A good coach helps me to learn about myself, and find the path, so that I really learn it myself. A good coach will help me attain a high level of self knowledge. I also think that good coaches will help you or me focus on the process. Again, it’s about learning and growth. Once the end goal is determined, then a coach helps to break goals down into doable tasks and objectives and then gives great feedback along the way.
Finding a Coach has Benefits
So, how do you know if you need a coach? Well, the simple answer is you need one – simple as that. Remember that common thread of success included finding a coach? But, here are three other reasons to support finding a coach:

Are you feeling stuck? Walt Disney said, “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” A good coach will ask you what you want to accomplish, then move you toward taking action.

Do you need accountability? A good coach will encourage you to follow through with what you’re doing. It’s all about staying on track with action and results.

Do you want to get to your goal faster? The old adage that time is money is true, A good coach has experience and knows what you’re trying to accomplish. That experience will help you get to your goals faster.

A lot of times as entrepreneurs, we feel that we can do it all ourselves. We’re achievers. We’re high performers. I know one of the hardest things for me when I started The Standing O Show was to admit that getting a coach was beneficial and the investment was worth it even at a time when revenue is low when first starting out. I’ve had many years of experience as an executive in corporate America, but building a podcast is new for me. After hearing all my guests talk about the benefits of finding and working with a coach, I swallowed my pride and sought out a coach who I’ll start working with in a couple of weeks. I believe in the saying that “success leaves clues”. If every guest talks about the transformational role of a coach in their Standing O experiences, then that’s worth paying attention to. Is there someone you can seek out as a coach for your life or business and take it the next level? Finding a coach will do many things for you, but I think there two things that are most important: Increased productivity and confidence. Think Big! And surround yourself with people who think bigger than you. Finding a Coach “Coaching is the universal language to connect people, helping them to develop a new perspective, while expanding their inner beliefs and boundaries, equipping them to be the best version of themselves.” – Farshad Asl

[bctt tweet="I’m loving Mindset Monday on the #StandingOShow podcast with @marcsmith111 !"]

Thanks so much for listening!

Now, go out today and get your Standing O!
Click to see all the books recommended by past Standing O Show guests. 12: Feel More Compassion - Mindset Monday with Marc Smith

To feel more compassion is the focus for today's Mindset Monday episode on The Standing O Show. For me, compassion starts with the mindset that you and I are connected to one another, and that I’m always seeing the good in you and every living being. And, when you have goodness and peace and abundance in your life, it benefits me and the world, and vice versa. And, when you don’t, I want to do something to help when given the opportunity.
Enjoy this episode? Please subscribe to the podcast in iTunes and leave a 5 star rating and review! They really do matter, and I read every one of them.
Episode Notes
Hello, thank you for joining me today on The Standing O Show! I’m your host, Marc Smith. And, for today’s Mindset Monday, I want to talk to you about compassion To feel more compassion is such an important key to living a satisfying life. For me, it starts with the mindset that you and I are connected to one another, and that I’m always seeing the good, or potential, in you and every living being. And, when you have goodness and peace and abundance in your life, it benefits me and the world, and vice versa. And, when you don’t, I want to do something to help when given the opportunity. So, the great thing about compassion is that it comes from within. The Association for Psychological Science says that compassion is defined as “the emotional response when perceiving suffering and involves an authentic desire to help.” So, whether acts of compassion are big or small, it doesn’t matter as long as they come from the heart. Aesop writes, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”
To Feel More Compassion Has Benefits
You know, aside from helping others, compassion also benefits you and me when we practice it. Science has shown that to feel more compassion has real mental and physical health benefits too. In an experiment at the University of British Columbia, participants received a sum of money and half of the participants were instructed to spend the money on themselves; the other half was told to spend the money on others. At the end of the study participants who had spent money on others felt significantly happier than those who had spent money on themselves. Anne Frank said, “No one ever became poor by giving.” The University of Michigan discovered that people who are motivated by compassion and are engaged in volunteerism live longer than their non-volunteering peers. Other research has shown that depression and anxiety are linked to a preoccupation with ourselves. When you do something for someone else, however, that state of self-focus shifts to a state of other-focus and can reduce stress and anxiety. I’ve really found this to be true. The fastest way for me get out of my head is to feel more compassion and help someone else. It gives me perspective, and helps me feel happy and less pre-occupied. Plato said, “Be kind, for everyone is fighting a harder battle.” And by practicing compassion, you have a ripple effect. Parneet Pal, the Chief Science Officer of Wisdom Labs in San Francisco says that “science shows that compassion is contagious; it spreads in social networks, up to three degrees of separation.” So, if I see you doing something kind for someone in need, it makes me feel good too, and more often than not, I’ll reach out and help someone. My friends and family will see that and some will do the same. Then, their friends see their acts of compassion…and so on. You get the picture. Happiness spreads and if the people around us are happy, we also become happier.
Do Good, Be Kind, and Change the World
Will you look out for someone in need today, connect, and help in whatever way you can? Or, how about doing an act of random compassionate kindness for someone else? Compassion “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” – Dalai Lama

[bctt tweet="I’m loving Mindset Monday on the #StandingOShow podcast with @marcsmith111 !"]

Thanks so much for listening!

Now, go out today and get your Standing O!
Click to see all the books recommended by past Standing O Show guests. 10: Gratitude as a Way of Life - Mindset Monday with Marc Smith

Gratitude as a way of life is the focus of today's Mindset Monday. I can’t think of anything that can transform a situation or my feelings about something more than finding and acknowledging gratitude. We often hear about having an attitude of gratitude. But, gratitude is more than just an attitude. It’s also a feeling, an emotion, a virtue, a way to cope…I’d even go so far to say that gratitude can be a way of life.
Enjoy this episode? They really do matter, and I read every one of them.
Episode Notes
Hello, thanks for listening Ovation Nation to double digit Mindset Monday – it’s episode 10! I’m your host, Marc Smith. I want to talk on this Mindset Monday about gratitude as a way of life. Joel Osteen says, “Choosing to be positive and having a grateful attitude is going to determine how you’re going to live your life.”
What is Gratitude
So, what is gratitude? The word itself is made up from the latin root word gratia. If you think about the word, in addition to gratitude, you’ll notice that the words grateful, gracias, gratify, gratuity, and grace come from it. So, gratitude has to do with kindness, and giving, and favor, and generosity, and receiving something unearned. To me, gratitude as a way of life comes from a deep, happy place in me that is full of appreciation, humility and joyfulness. It goes beyond the good manners of saying thank you, or the obligation like when some parents ask their children, “Now, what do you say to grandma?” Those cultural forms of appreciation have their place. But, as the author, GK Chesterton writes, “I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by joy.”
The Benefits of Gratitude as a Way of Life
I suppose because gratitude as a way of life comes from the heart, it makes sense that researchers are finding that it’s good for your health. A study showed that patients who experienced a heart attack were more likely to suffer another heart attack within 8 years if they blamed their attack on others and outside factors. This was opposed to heart attack patients who acknowledged benefits and gains from their experience, including being more appreciative of life. They had a reduced risk for another heart attack. If nothing else, a focus on gratitude can help us want to take better care of our bodies. In other research, it’s been found that positive emotions, including gratitude, have a physiological healing effect on our body as they undo the harmful effects of negative emotions. I think this is what Naomi Williams may have been thinking when she said, “It is impossible to feel grateful and depressed at the same time.”
Gratitude in Tough Times
But, is gratitude as a way of life easier said than done during hard times? I mean it’s pretty easy to be grateful when things going great and life seems in flow. But what happens when we suffer loss, or face hardships? What do we do with gratitude blockers like anger, resentment, and grief? Well, gratitude, or finding gratefulness in even the toughest of times, plays a role in eventual happiness and growth. Living with gratitude as a way of life can help transform even the darkest moments into an opportunity for growth. It’s not about being grateful for the circumstances. I’m not grateful for loss or even a dumb decision that’s made things difficult. It’s more about being grateful for the skills you have for transforming those circumstances into something positive or for growth.
Remembering my Mom with Gratitude
One of the reasons that I chose gratitude for Mindset Monday is that this week, 7 years ago, my mom went into hospice and passed away from breast cancer. It’s always a tough week as it brings to the top of my mind how much I miss her. I don’t think that’ll ever go away. So, I feel the sorrow, the pain of loss returns, the tears come when I realize how much I miss just picking up the phone and talking. But, I also turn to gratitude as I remember her and celebrate her role in me becoming the man I am today.
I’m grateful that I was her son and she was my mom. I’m grateful that I felt the unconditional love that only a mom can give. I’m thankful that I have her empathy for those who are suffering and working toward a better life. I’m grateful that she brought dogs into our home at such a young age and taught my sister and I to be responsible and love all animals. I’m grateful that she taught me to always look for the good in a person. I’m thankful that she and my dad instilled a sense of humor in me that’s one of the most valuable things that I have. I’m grateful that I learned so much from her about strength and graciousness as I watched her fight like hell against the disease and then face dying. And, I’m grateful that from her death I have determined to live with even more happiness, purpose, and success in my life.
So, if you’re listening to this episode in the morning, what is there happening today that you can be grateful for? Or, if you’re listening at the end of the day, what are 2 or 3 good things, gifts, benefits that happened today that fill you with gratitude. Make these questions a habit. Research shows that reminding ourselves of things we are grateful for affirms us and makes us happier. As Dr. Robert Emmons says in his book, Thanks! How Practicing Gratitude Can Make You Happier, “When we are grateful, we affirm that a source of goodness exists in our lives.” Gratitude “Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.” – Eckhart Tolle
[bctt tweet="I’m loving Mindset Monday on the #StandingOShow podcast with @marcsmith111 !"]

Thanks so much for listening!

Now, go out today and get your Standing O!
Click to see all the books recommended by past Standing O Show guests. 8: Expand Your Comfort Zone - Mindset Monday with Marc Smith

How to expand your comfort zone is the topic of today’s Mindset Monday. We’ve all heard the saying that life begins one step outside of your comfort zone. And, I know that it’s absolutely true, and I also know that moving out of the comfort zone is not comfortable. There are ways to expand or raise your comfort zone. To Expand your comfort zone is growth. John Maxwell says that “If we’re growing, we’re always going to be out of our comfort zones.” Three steps to move out of your comfort zone are to decide that you value growth over standing still, change your mindset, and take small action steps into the new situation.
Enjoy this episode? They really do matter, and I read every one of them.
Episode Notes
Hello, thanks for listening Ovation Nation to another Mindset Monday! I’m your host, Marc Smith. I want to talk to you about How to Expand Your Comfort Zone! We’ve all heard the saying that life begins one step outside of your comfort zone. And, I know that it’s absolutely true, and I also know that moving out of the comfort zone is not very comfortable. The question is what do we need to do face that discomfort and move toward the things that help us be successful and prosperous? Back in last week’s Mindset Monday, Episode 6, I talked about the tension that’s created when we begin thinking big and see ourselves outside our current situation. That created tension is the sweet spot that leads to growth! Abraham Maslow says, “One can choose to go backward toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again. Fear must be overcome again and again.”
[bctt tweet="I’m loving Mindset Monday on the #StandingOShow podcast with @marcsmith111 !"]

Your Comfort Zone is Like Your Internal Thermostat
So, let’s look at comfort zones more closely. One of my teachers, the late Lou Tice, of The Pacific Institute, said, that “Our comfort zones regulate our effectiveness.” Regulate is the key word because Lou explained that the comfort zones in our mind are like the thermostat in our home. If we set the comfort point at 72 degrees, then the heat or AC comes on when the temperature goes outside that set point and brings it back to 72 degrees. If you think of yourself in a certain way or you get used to living at a certain level, then your mind wants to self-regulate and bring you back to that comfort zone whenever you begin to think about something bigger or even different. You start to feel out of place, and your subconscious mind says “Get back to where you belong!” Retreat! Don’t do it! You begin to come up with excuses, “what if this happens?” or “Yes, that would be nice, But…” But, I’m not ready…But, I don’t have time…But, I could never do that…anything to relieve the fear and get back into the comfort zone. So, those feelings can be normal. It’s just your comfort zone making those excuses in your mind. Kyra Davis writes, “Sometimes we have to step outside of our comfort zones. And we have to discover the sensuality of fear. We need to face it, challenge it, dance with it.”
3 Ways to Expand Your Comfort Zone
There are ways to expand or raise your comfort zone. So let’s talk about them. Expanding your comfort zone is growth. John Maxwell says that “If we’re growing, we’re always going to be out of our comfort zones.” Here are 3 steps to expand your comfort zone:

The first thing is to decide. Decide to let go of all the reasons something won’t work, and decide that you want it. Once you make the decision that you really want it, then your subconscious mind goes into action to provide creative ideas about how to get it or do it. Keep in mind the positive benefits of stepping out of your comfort zone: self confidence, efficacy, meeting new people, productivity, accomplishment. So make the decision that you want these things, that you want to grow.

Change your mindset. When you begin to feel that fear or uncertainty come up, do what professional athletes do before a big game. Begin to visualize the situation and you being successful in that situation. Visualize the end result and what that feels like. Know that you are bigger than the situation. Your subconscious is creative and will seek out the way. I’m always amazed how the steps make themselves known once I set the goal, see it in my mind and move toward it.

Say Yes! to the opportunities. Accept the nervous feelings and take action steps that move you forward.

The Standing O Show Has Really Moved Me Out of My Comfort Zone (and I love it!)
I know that after years working in corporate America as an educator and in Executive Leadership, starting a new business, which includes The Standing O Show was a huge step out of my comfort zone. Facing fears and doubts and struggling with things I didn’t know how to do caused me to want to retreat many times! But I made the decision (sometimes daily) to expand my comfort zone. I used visualization and changed my mindset. And, I just kept taking steps toward my goals discovering the ways to do things as I moved ahead… and I wouldn’t trade it for anything! I’ve met and started relationships with amazing, successful people who I wouldn’t have met by falling back into my comfort zone, and I feel so good knowing that I’m helping others through this show and my business. My comfort zone expands every day. What’s one opportunity that you can say Yes to today that expands and moves you out of your comfort zone? Can you find one thing today, Ovation Nation? Expand Your Comfort Zone “Coming out of your comfort zone is tough in the beginning, chaotic in the middle, and awesome in the end…because in the end it shows you a whole new world!” – Manoj Arora
Thanks so much for listening!

Now, go out today and get your Standing O!
Click to see all the books recommended by past Standing O Show guests. 6: Thinking Big - Mindset Monday with Marc Smith

Thinking Big is the topic of today’s Mindset Monday. One of the keys to a success mindset is that you think big! And, you also understand that you are what you think. You can win success by believing you can succeed. Once you decide to achieve what you're thinking about, then go after it with everything you've got. Look at things as they can be, not as they are. Imagine how it will feel after the change is made, develop a plan with smaller goals and take action making adjustments as you go along, and celebrate as you achieve the steps of your plan along the way.
Enjoy this episode? Please subscribe to the podcast in iTunes and leave a 5 star rating and review! They really do matter, and I read every one of them.
Episode Notes
Hello, thanks for listening Ovation Nation! I’m your host, Marc Smith. Today, I want to talk to you about Thinking Big! Look, you spend your whole day thinking, you might as well think big. Back in the Intro Episode 000, I talked about 3 kinds of mindset – the growth mindset, the success or champion mindset, and the millionaire or abundance mindset. One of the keys to each of them is that you think big! And, you also understand that you are what you think. You can win success by believing you can succeed. David Schwartz, the author of The Magic of Thinking Big, writes, “The mind is what the mind is fed”. Feed your mind good thoughts, positive thoughts, big thoughts, and big things will come. Emeril Lagasse says, “If you think big, then it’s going to be big.”
[bctt tweet="I’m loving Mindset Monday on the #StandingOShow podcast with @marcsmith111 !"]

Thinking Big and a Rubber Band
Imagine that you’re holding a rubber band in your left hand between your thumb and forefinger at about chest level. This represents the way things are in your life right now, it’s your current reality. Now, take the other end of the rubber band with your right hand between your thumb and forefinger and pull it upward toward your chin. The top of the rubber band now represents something bigger that you want, it’s your desired state or your goal, or the thing that you’re thinking bigger about. One of the first things that you’ll notice when you pull the rubber band upward toward the thing or goal you desire is that it creates tension in the rubber band. That’s normal. And, that’s what happens in us as we think big. A tension forms in our minds because we are taking ourselves out of our current situation into something different or bigger. We are imagining something that is out of our comfort zone. Now this tension is normal and it’s a good thing. It means you’re thinking big. If your thoughts about what you want to achieve begin to make you nervous, or fear or doubt begin to creep in, or other people say it can’t be done…that’s normal. Your mind wants to relieve the tension. And there are only two ways to do that.
Two Ways to Relieve Big Thinking Tension
So, can you still imaging the rubber band stretched in front of you – the lower hand representing the way things are now and the top hand representing what you want? You’re thinking big, and one of the ways you can relieve this tension is to return the top hand to meet the bottom hand (which means giving up on your big thought and returning to the way things are). I want to encourage you not to give in to fear or doubt. T. Harv Eker, author of Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, says in regard to people who want to develop a millionaire mindset, “The biggest obstacle to wealth is fear. People are afraid to think big, but if you think small, you’ll only achieve small things.” Now, the 2nd way, or the better way to relieve the tension in the rubber band is to bring the lower hand to meet the higher hand – to bring your current reality up to your bigger, desired state. And the way to do that is

Acknowledge the tension or fear or doubt.

Then, to go after what you want with everything you’ve got.

Look at things as they can be, not as they are. Imagine, or visualize, how it will feel after the change is made.

Develop a plan with smaller goals and take action making adjustments as you go along (at this point focus on the process more than the outcome).

And, definitely celebrate as you achieve the steps of your plan along the way.

The key is not to procrastinate until you think you know how to make it happen. David Schwartz says, “When you believe, your mind will find a way” and there’s a Zen saying, “Leap and the net will appear”. What is one thing that you are thinking big about today, Ovation Nation, that creates tension in you? Can you think even bigger? When you see that you can do it, you’ll build up the belief in your self to do even more.
Thinking Big!

Think big and don’t listen to people who tell you it can’t be done. Life is too short to think small. – Tim Ferris

Thanks so much for listening!

Now, go out today and get your Standing O!
Click to see all the books recommended by past Standing O Show guests.
Greg Faxon is a high-stakes performance coach who catalyzes radical and lasting results for champion-hearted individuals. He partners with entrepreneurs all across the globe who are driven to be the best at their game and helps them build impactful businesses without leaving their health or relationships behind. 4: Enthusiasm - Mindset Monday with Marc Smith

Today’s Mindset Monday is about Enthusiasm. It’s a great topic for me in particular, since mine is sky high surrounding the launch of the Standing O Show last week. I'll talk about the importance of enthusiasm and it's definition. Enthusiasm and resilience go hand in hand as evidenced by Churchill, Edison, and Disney. The three final points about enthusiasm: It focuses on things of value, people love to be around enthusiastic people, and enthusiasm is fun since it's the bridge to passion.
Enjoy this episode? Please subscribe to the podcast in iTunes and leave a 5 star rating and review! Today is the very first Mindset Monday here on The Standing O Show! Mindset Mondays are designed to be short solo episodes focused on topics to help get our mindset right to start off the week.

Today, I’m going to talk about “enthusiasm”. It’s a great topic for me in particular, since mine is sky high surrounding the launch of the Standing O Show last week. The feedback from you, Ovation Nation, has been fantastic and I’ve been touched by the comments I’ve been receiving about the show.

The Standing O Show is about building a positive mindset AND the marketing skills needed to help you or your business get the standing O that you deserve. It’s about the inner game and the outer game of business success.

So, It’s easy for me to be enthusiastic about building a business and a show around helping you achieve a thriving life and business.

[bctt tweet="I’m loving Mindset Monday on the #StandingOShow podcast with @marcsmith111 !"]

What Enthusiasm Means to Me

You know how on Facebook, it has the feature “On This Day”? Last week it showed that I posted a couple of years ago an excerpt from the novel, The Alchemist.

Paulo Coelho writes, "...there was a language in the world that everyone understood...it was the language of enthusiasm, of things accomplished with love and purpose..."

So, Enthusiasm is summed up for me by the phrase, “Do what you love and success will follow”.

It doesn’t mean that you’ll win every time. Sometimes, you’ll fall short. Winston Churchill said, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”

Think of Howard Schulz. He was turned down by banks over 200 times before someone said yes to Starbucks. Or, Thomas Edison…he failed over 1,000 times before he got the electric light bulb right. Walt Disney was turned down over 300 times, but his enthusiastic and his persistent approach has given us Disneyland - the Happiest Place on Earth!

It was enthusiasm for what they believed in that led to success.

Enthusiasm Defined

The Cambridge dictionary defines enthusiasm as “a feeling of energetic interest in something and a desire to be involved in it”.

So, it is a feeling, it’s energy, it’s interest, it’s desire, and it’s involvement. Success can’t help but follow when you have feelings about something or someone with energy, interest, desire, and involvement.

Charles Schwab says that “a person can succeed at anything for which he or she has unlimited enthusiasm”. What do you have in your life today that you are grateful for and that you can be enthusiastic about?

At this moment, I’m grateful to have you listening today, and I’m enthusiastic about The Standing O Show being able to help and inspire you.

What are you enthusiastic about today? I’d love to know. Feel free to let me know in the comment section on the website.

Final Thoughts About Enthusiasm

As I think more about this topic, it’s such a great feeling to show in your life because it means that you are focused on something of value. With enthusiasm, you have this energy and desire to be involved with a goal, or an experience, or a relationship, or in creating something of value.

Another thing about enthusiasm is that other people love to be around it! It's contagious. Chris Martin, from Coldplay, said, “We rely more on enthusiasm than actual skill. Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically and people will like it more.”

The last thing I’ll say about our topic, on this Mindset Monday, is that enthusiasm is fun! It is the bridge to passion, and it’s easy to be enthusiastic about something that you’re passionate about! That’s FUN!

Enthusiasm!

If you have zest and enthusiasm you attract zest and enthusiasm. Life does give back in kind. - Norman Vincent Peale.

Thanks so much for listening! 2: 5 Things Your Business Needs to Hit 6 Figures with Brian Lofrumento

Brian Lofrumento discusses how at a young age, he’s been able to build a number of successful businesses. Brian's businesses have reached over 3.5 million people worldwide, and he has over 3,000 students from around the world going through his courses about how to automate and scale their businesses online. The key to hit 6 figures and growing business success is the strategy to always lead with value.
During the interview, Brian tells the story of providing so much free value and good marketing content in a seminar, that when it came time for audience questions the first question came from a man who asked, “Who do I cut a check to?” Entrepreneurs are successful when they focus on whom they want to serve and providing what those individuals want. Brian also talks about his book, Wantrepreneur to Entrepreneur. He shares about what it takes to get in front of and meet the people who inspire him. In addition, he talks about how your mindset is the ultimate decider of success. Finally, I present Brian with a business scenario and ask him to apply the 5 things the business needs to hit 6 figures. Brian explains the lead magnet, trip wire, return path…and much more. Enjoy this interview? They really do matter, and I read every one of them.

Episode Notes

Hello. Thanks so much for listening today! I’m your host, Marc Smith. I’m flying solo today, instead of interviewing a guest, because I want to let you know what this podcast is all about. So, the Standing O Show is an upbeat, positive conversation focused on your mindset and the marketing skills needed to get to a higher level in your life and in your business. If you’re someone who has great ideas, and needs to put them into action, or let’s say that you’ve just started a new business, and you need to attract more customers, or maybe as an artist, an author or an entrepreneur you already have a strong business, and you want it to become a thriving business, then my goal with the Standing O Show is to deliver content and inspiration to help you take your brand center stage. You’ll hear from guests who have had Standing O experiences, and who will help you, teach you, or inspire you to get more Standing O’s in your life and business.

Why Mindset & Marketing?

Well, By focusing on both mindset AND marketing, we’re able to start from the inside and work our way out toward the “how-to” in order to have a flourishing life and business. I believe to my core that thoughts become things…that your present thoughts determine your future, and that until you master your inner game, you’ll never master your outer game.

3 Kinds of Mindset

So, I want to explore the inner game by looking at three kinds of mindset: the growth mindset, the success or champion mindset, and the millionaire mindset. Let me briefly talk about them. The growth mindset looks at learning and overcoming challenges as great things! Life is about growing and your focus is always about using every life event and getting better and better! Successful people have a growth mindset. Now, the success mindset looks at your life and says you have the power to create the results and life you want. By focusing on what you want, training your mind to imagine and feel it, you are in a position to intentionally create it for yourself. That’s the success mindset. And, finally, the millionaire mindset: Let’s face it, prosperous people think differently. With a millionaire mindset, you think big. You let money work for you, not the other way around. And, you always focus on opportunities.

The Inner Game of Mindset

I’ll tell you a little of my story. For many years of my adult life, I’ve done pretty well, but I also failed miserably. I was inconsistent, or I would achieve a level of success and then do something that would sabotage it due to faulty beliefs or wrong attitudes. Then in 2003, I started to learn the principles and strategies to change my mindset and that changed my life – dramatically! It’s the saying, “Change your thoughts and change your life” or “Change your thoughts and change your world”. I learned that my MINDSET MATTERS, and the results in my life came from my mindset and that whatever I accomplish depends as much on my thoughts and beliefs as it does my ability. Every area of my life is substantially and consistently better – my confidence, my emotional life, my career, my income, my relationships…because, I learned that the 1st step to Standing O moments in life and in business is the right mindset, the growth mindset, the success mindset, and the millionaire mindset. I want the Standing O Show to contribute to your best you, and your best business!

The Outer Game of Marketing

But, I also know that it’s not enough only to get our thinking right. There needs to also be action as a result of those thoughts. That’s why the Standing O Show will also be sharing the best tips and strategies to put your brand in the spotlight from marketing experts and guests who have experienced success with marketing their own business or brand. We’ll discuss topics like how to use LinkedIn, or live streaming, or video marketing, SEO, podcasting, webinars, your blog, or any marketing platform to share valuable content, attract your audience, and build a community that elevates your brand. I’ll have guests who will show you how to use the power of meaningful relationships to gain trust and loyalty for your business in order to increase your revenue and achieve the highest levels of success!

The Standing O Show Was Created for You

So, that’s what the Standing O Show is about, and I really hope that you find what you’re hearing interesting and of value. If you sometimes struggle with that chatter in your head, you know – your self-talk, then this podcast is for you. And, if you need to raise your marketing game in order to elevate your brand, then this podcast is for you! I want the Standing O Show to provide information that matters to you. If you ever have any feedback for me, please get in touch. You can leave comments at the show’s website, StandingOShow.com, or you can connect with me on Twitter or Facebook.

Format and Schedule of The Standing O Show

The Standing O Show is launching with 3 episodes, and then I’ll publish 2 episodes a week. One will be an interview published every Wednesday morning, and the other will be a shorter solo episode every Monday morning called Mindset Monday. You’ll also notice that in every interview episode I ask my guests for a book recommendation that influenced their mindset or business. Jim Rohn said that, “Successful people have libraries”. I agree. Reading good books is one of the best things we can do to impact our lives. So, you’ll always be able to see all the Standing O Book recommendations at StandingOShow.com. The 2nd thing that you’ll notice in every interview episode is the Standing O Spotlight. This is where I’ll ask all guests to shine a spotlight on the charity or nonprofit organization of their choice. It’s so important to me to always have an attitude of gratitude and to play a part in helping these organizations do good work in the world. You can always find a list of these spotlighted nonprofits on the website, and a portion of all Standing O Show revenue will be donated to each of the recommended organizations. Well, that’s an intro to the Standing O Show! If you like what you hear today, please hit that subscribe button and give an honest rating and review. That helps the show get publicity, which helps me attract interesting, influential, and entertaining guests who you’ll enjoy!

Thanks so much for listening!
