Ep91 - David and Jody catch up

Sometimes Jody and David find themselves without a guest. They sit and wait diligently on Skype but the guest is a no-show.

(It's usually because they're realised at the last minute what the show is about and are running for the hills. Pretty fair, we reckon.)

So the chaps use this time to catch-up on what's been going on in the world of BBR and general weirdness.

In this episode, you'll hear about:

The unbearable awfulness/greatness of running with your top off

Why Jody and David can't actually remember how long they've been podcasting for

Why the OCR European Champs may have been a touch too hard this year and why that's bad

How Killian Jornet destroyed the Bob Graham Round (in a good and bad way)

Some cycling and why it's bad (obvs)

The brand new BBR Instagram account (it's ace, look it up)

An explosive race David comes up with that NO-ONE will ever want to run

David and Jody review some of their reviews on iTunes (they now have a new favourite one star review)

PLUS this episode features perhaps the greatest STING yet right at the start (and yes, that IS Brian Blessed).

Sorry Fi, there's no Silk Cut on this episode. Best skip it and come back next week...

If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else.

Join the conversation!
It's another returnee to the Bad Boy Running podcast.

After the DNAFit episode with Andrew Steele where Jody and David faced off to see who had the best genes (David won), Andrew returns to talk about his time as an Olympian.

Andrew spent 12 years as an Olympic athlete competing in the 400 metres and 4x400 metre relay for Team GB and won a bronze medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games (although not *actually* at the games... he explains why).

If you want an insider's view of what it's like to train for and compete in the Olympics, this is the episode for you.

Plus there's the usual updates and jibber jabber from Jody and David, (and Jody seems to go full "support group" on us). Ep89 - Charlie Webster on near-death experiences

This episode is a bit of a treat... and is very different from other episodes published.

In this instalment of BBR, Jody and David speak with Sky Sports presenter Charlie Webster about her epic charity bike ride two years ago through the Amazon which ended in near-disaster.

Just weeks later, she was lying in a hospital bed in a coma fighting for her life as she battled malaria with her mother beside her ready to say goodbye.

Seriously, this is an inspirational, shocking and kind of heart-breaking account from Charlie who doesn't pull any punches and reveals everything.

(Jody and David will tell you it's their clever, disarming interview style... but don't let that fool you)

Seriously, give this a listen. It's two hours of incredible stuff.

Oh, and the Silk Cut is only a few minutes so it's pretty much all interview.

If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else.

Join the conversation! Ep87 - Race nutrition with Renee McGregor

In this week's episode Jody and David are talking food (or fuel) depending on how you refer to your race nutrition.

And there are few people as qualified to talk about race nutrition, especially for ultras as Renee McGregor, performance dietician and author of books including Training Food and the Fast Fuel series.

Hang on to your macros, as Jody and David squeeze every ounce of knowledge from Renee's brain on the subject (hint: this is one of those really practical, useful episodes that sometimes accidentally slip through the net...)

Plus our report on Beer Lovers Marathon right at the start...

If you want to cut straight to Renee, the Silk Cut is at mins.

If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else.

Join the conversation! Ep 85 - Thomas Blanc on running Survival Nicaragua

It's a cracker of an episode this week with Jody and David speaking to the legendary Thomas Blanc, OCR athlete, adventure runner and now quality manager for Spartan.

They specifically discuss Thomas's recent running of Survival Nicaragua and everything competitors had to do on this crazy-ass race.

Here's what you'll discover:

Why a career in agriculture and farming is the best preparation for the race

Why running with your sister is ALWAYS better than running with your partner

Why you should NEVER replace eggs with children

What Thomas's exact role is for Spartan and how he run his eye over Spartan races to make sure they're up to scratch

How he had to bribe a Greek farmer to get his Spartan Spartan race run

Of course, there's the usual catch-up shenanigans from Jody and David before and after, including an unprecedented amount of time dedicated to just two Netflix recommendations and discussing the question "why would you ever run Barklay Marathons?".

Which means the Silk Cut is at a punchy 32 minutes (skip ahead if you just want to hear the soothing tone of Thomas's silky Gallic voice).

Salut!

If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else.

Join the conversation! Ep84 - Matt Fitzgerald on 80/20 running and heart rate

Ok, this has been a long time coming due to various technical issues with the recording but finally it's here.

Jody and David sit down with Matt Fitzgerald, author of multiple running books including 80/20 Running and Racing Weight.

They're specifically focused on 80/20 in this episode and the importance of managing intensity when training.

There's loads of great stuff in this interview with Matt and (fortunately for Fi Silk) very little chitter chatter from Jody and David - mainly because all that content was lost.

So finally - and probably far too late for your training to make any difference - here's Matt Fitzgerald talking 80/20.

If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else.

Join the conversation! Ep62 - Dale Clutterbuck on The Beer Mile

There's little the guys love more than talking about beer. Ok, probably drinking beer... but that doesn't exactly make a great podcast episode.

In this episode, Jody and David talk to British 1500m athlete Dale Clutterbuck who is looking to improve on his European Beer Mile record for the Beer Mile... but taking on the very best again in the Beer Mile World Champs shortly.

Dale reveals all about correct beer chugging technique and the pitfalls of training for such an auspicious event. He also reveals what life was like at St Mary's, tells tales of a bust-up on the track and gives his uncensored opinion on the state of athletics.

Also in this episode, Jody and David carry on the drinking theme by getting all nostalgic about the awful stuff they drank as teenagers... It's a pretty alcoholic and often nonsensical episode. If he wins, that's a nice windfall, if he loses, he has to get seventeen first and second names tattooed on his body.

David and Jody start off with the basic questions about how's training going, whether it's realistic, before, in classic Do-Badder style, they veer off course and end up talking up about how social media could be used by those who are of a higher profile to bring more attention to the sport.

If you want to get somebody on the podcast then find us on Facebook by searching Bad Boy Running Podcast and asking to be accepted into the group, from there it's simply a case of making suggestions.
This Podcast features James Appleton talking to the guys about, well, everything really. They cover Tough Guy, fell running, and photography. The guys also hear an EXCLUSIVE piece of news from James, so listen out for that nearer the end. This interview is so packed with information that the intro is possibly breaks the BBR record for being one of the shortest we've ever done. Ep43 - Lowri Morgan on running the Jungle Marathon, 6633 and 333 ultras

In this interview the guys get the chance to talk to one of the coolest, toughest people on the planet. Lowri Morgan is one of only 6 people (ever) to finish the 350 mile non-stop marathon in the Arctic and not only can she survive extreme cold, she can do heat too as she finished in the top 10 on her first ever ultra in the Amazonian jungle.

She has won BAFTAs, jumped out of planes, and she has met the Queen. Her incredible achievements are matched by how down-to-earth she is and this chatty, relaxed podcast is almost the opposite of the BBR way since it is both informative and useful. This is one interview you do not want to miss.

If there is anybody that you would like to hear interviewed on the Podcast then why not suggest it in our Facebook group? Ep42 - The Final Tough Guy and Marathon Training

The main themes for this podcast are the final ever Tough Guy and advice for this stage of training for spring marathons. When I say themes, I use it in the loosest possible sense as everything is discussed really. Special Forces Hell Week is back on so that requires a brief analysis, we discover that David hates Seinfeld, and, rather generously, the guys spend about 20 minutes plugging other podcasts.

When they get around to discussing marathon training, they are actually quite helpful. What is the Maffetone method? What should you be eating? How many miles should you be logging before that upcoming spring marathon? Rules are debunked and approved in this genuinely quite useful episode.

If you have any contributions then be sure to join the Facebok group! Just to be clear, he also answers some sensible, not Do-Badder questions which (unfortunately) makes this another incredibly informative episode.

David then tells Jody how much hashing he's going to be doing before the Myanmar Marathon.

To join the conversation, why not go to the Bad Boy Running Facebook Group? That obstacle course race is unlikely to be a Tough Mudder or Spartan but it could be anything from a Dirty Dozen to Judgement Day to Survival of the Fittest to Wolf Run to a Nuts Challenge. Maybe. Could be anything.

Anyway, after giving some genuinely useful advice the guys turn their attention to apologies for factual errors and apologies for past Strava accidental racism which David has since effectively rebranded to an incredible name.

Once you're done listening join the discussion on the Facebook Group!
