TD&KS Episode 299: With special musical guest Cherish Lee
Weird News and more Cherish Lee has seen how hard the business is first hand through her father, Johnny Lee (country music legend, Urban Cowboy’s “Lookin’ For Love”) and mother, Charlene Tilton (television sex pot vixen, Lucy Ewing on hit TV show, “DALLAS”). She quickly gained her own recognition as a singer and songwriter in THE Music City. Lee’s album is truly homegrown– a Cinderella piece that is just flat out cool. This October 2017, Lee is releasing her first single “Tequila Cowgirl,” along with her music video debut. “Tequila Cowgirl” is about an all American girl- a hard worker; she’s got her head on straight, knows right from wrong and lives by that. She loves Jesus and tequila. She loves her animals and is thankful for what she has. While she doesn’t need a man and won’t share her bed with just anyone, she is looking forward to meeting the right one. Any guy would be considered lucky to bring her home to meet his mama, and every girl wants to be her best friend! The song has an intimate, nostalgic feel to it with a healthy dose of country music. The full, aptly- named album, “Tequila Cowgirl” is scheduled for release in January 2018. It’s honest music that tells a story, and Lee’s voice conveys it beautifully, with all the attitude that her fans have come to expect from her. www.cherishleemusic.com www.facebook.com/cherishleemusic

TD&KS Episode 298: Post-Thanksgiving wrap up + musical guest Phillip Broussard
Back from Thanksgiving with musical guest Phillip Broussard! Phillip Broussard discovered his passion early in life, when his father brought home a guitar. His father's original intention was to play the guitar himself, but he soon found Phillip picking up the guitar, when he didn't think anyone was watching. What started as just a few chords, ignited a desire to want to share his new found passion with the world. Born and raised in Washington State, Phillip grew up under the influence of several artists that his father idolized, including Pink Floyd, James Taylor, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton. Tragedy struck at 18 years old when Phillip's father, grandfather and uncle passed away within 6 months of each other. Phillip enlisted in the United States Navy, in an attempt to quell his grief. Early on in his Naval career, someone handed Phillip a copy of John Mayer's cd, "Room for Squares". This album reignited Phillip's passion for the guitar after a hiatus, due to the loss of his family members. In 2007, Phillip deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. During this time, he refined his guitar skills. After his time in the military, Phillip sporadically played gigs in the San Diego area. He relocated to Washington State, where he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Washington in Seattle. He acquired a BA in Finance from Foster School of Business. Phillip's music stylings have a darker tone, but range from the Blues to Pop tunes. When Phillip is not playing music, he earns a living as the owner of a general contracting business in Pierce County Washington. TD&KS Episode 296: Special guest Tariku Bogale
From his early days raised in Ethiopia as one of 13 siblings, Bogale worked his way out of poverty to funding his own education in Switzerland and beyond and becoming the CEO of numerous companies. His memoir UNSTOPPABLE: CHALLENGE ACCEPTED (Dual Publisher, Sept 21, 2017) tells his incredible story of success, struggle, and determination in a journey through South Africa, to Switzerland, New York, Hollywood, and beyond. Bogale's endeavors are visionary and multifaceted, ranging from Johannesburg's largest Shopping Centre, to cloud-based and data-driven solutions that help hotels around the world maximize revenue, to a new social network to compete with Facebook to multiple films and an original screenplay that's currently being considered for the next James Bond 25 (2019). Jim now spends most of his time in his studio, sifting through old tape. " I have over 50 hours of demo tape , with literally thousands of song ideas on them"'. TD&KS Episode 181: Musical guest, Bradford Loomis and Beth Whitney
A very special show, with all the regular bits you like, Weird News and Hot Topics. We will be interviewing musical guest guest Bradford Loomis and Beth Whitney.  When artists Beth Whitney and Bradford Loomis began writing together, they had no  idea their casual co-writing experiment would blossom into the much anticipated album  The Banner Days (releasing August 23rd on MTS Records). That first night, they wrote  “My Beloved” in two hours. And after a few more writing sessions, it was clear to both,  that these songs merited a bold decision. From the first time they played together, along with Beth’s husband/collaborator, Aaron  Fishburn, the chemistry has been powerful. The combination of Beth’s delicate, pure,  and melodious voice and Bradford’s soulful, growling tone makes for a beautifully heart  wrenching harmonious blend. Their dramatic crescendos, minimalist intensity, through intricate harmonies have elicited  comparisons to The Civil Wars, the Swell Season, and Robert Plant and Alison  Krauss’ Raising Sand. With equal parts sweetly anthemic, pop tinged folk, provided by Beth, and Bradford’s  gritty, passionate Americana Roots sound, The Banner Days is an intrepid step for both  artists. www.thebannerdays.com https://www.facebook.com/bannerdays https://twitter.com/TheBannerDays Beth Whitney - Ukulele, Vocals,  Bradford Loomis - Guitar, Vocals Aaron Fishburn - Upright Bass, Group vocals Luke Peterson - Drums, Percussion, Group vocals Jessie Scott - Violin Brandon Bee - Guitar, Ukulele, Piano, Organ (Wurlitzer, B3), Slide Guitar, Pedal Steel,  Banjo, Percussion, Group vocals

TD&KS Ep 141: Comedian Phoebe Angle
Phoebe is a stand up comic from Boston, Massachusetts, and a regular on the New England scene who would like to share her brain with you. Raised on a farm in rural Maine, she has recently become a city dweller. That -- combined with her day job in a liquor store, and previous work as a qualitative psychological researcher -- gives her a twisted view of the world, and society at large. Her act is not for the faint of heart, but charming nonetheless. She's a sweet sophisticated young lady, so don't be surprised when you're not offended when she tells you to go F yourself. Her comedy tells it how it is, or at least how it is in her head. She has a sense of humor that pokes fun at men, public transportation, her mother, politics and much more. Her act is a mix of bizarre true stories, and misfired synapses of the brain. Phoebe has played clubs, colleges, and bar stools all over the North East. http://phoebeangle.com/ Plus all the regular Dereck and Kay you love, with Weird News and Hot Topics.

A recent move to Nashville, Tennessee has brought Doug to the epicenter of the country music industry. Grateful for being able to live his dream of performing and recording music, he has gladly given back to his community in a big way. Surrounded by a history of veterans and military service in his family, (his son currently serves in the Air Force) Doug has begun working with Bright Star International, who will help facilitate Doug’s work with veterans’ charities. An ordained pastor, Doug also served at the Cowboy Church of Anchorage, Alaska, prior to his family’s relocation to Music City, USA. In fact, it’s his unwavering faith and love of country music that has led Doug on his journey. “I have come to know and love the Cowboy Lifestyle through country music…And, it is who I am now, who I have been, and who I will always be.” Dereck and Kay will have what you like, Weird News and Hot Topics.

***There are some technical problems in the first 6 minutes, its hard to hear Kay but we did some editing and it gets better after that.*** We have weird news of the week and hot topics! With special guest C.E.L Welsh. C.E.L. Welsh is the author of CLUTCH: Book One of The Wrecked Earth and the mastermind behind Seven Stones. He’s here to talk about the challenges of pulling together a team of 14 contributors, what it’s like to have others play in the sandbox he created, and how they all hope that Kickstarter and “The Crowd” will not only help them reach their goal, but make the final product the best that it can be. Seven Stones: the coolest word-and-picture project since the world ended. The Wrecked Earth is our world, or it used to be until the meteors started falling. The devastation started with Rockfall and never stopped. Civilization was destroyed, and now strange societies and loose bands of misfits struggle for power. Fallen meteors leak radiation, changing the landscape and mutating all that touches them. Herds of mutant animals roam the land and people struggle to survive. Seven writers were chosen. Each of them was tasked with writing the story of a stone, a special meteorite of The Wrecked Earth. Seven artists brought the stories to life as comics. And YOU get to be part of the process that brings it all together. Please check out the kickstarter below and consider making a donation to help support this creative project. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1502681567/seven-stones-anthology-graphic-novel-and-omnibus

TD&KS Episode 122: OMFG, it's Melissa Mohr!
WARNING: ADULT LANGUAGE AND SUBJECT MATTER: We are thrilled to have author Melissa Mohr in studio with us to talk about her new, awesome book everyone is talking about: Holy Sh*t: A Brief History of Swearing. For the first time, we'll be letting loose and talking about some of our favorite swear words, but there will be no name calling! Plus, as usual, Dereck has his Weird News of the Week and Kay brings us the Hot Topics. It's our last show in June! Melissa has recently been dividing her time between writing a book about swearing and hiding it from her kids. She received a Ph.D. in English Literature from Stanford University, specializing in Medieval and Renaissance literature. She lives in Somerville, Massachusetts. Almost everyone swears, or worries about not swearing, from the two year-old who has just discovered the power of potty mouth to the grandma who wonders why every other word she hears is obscene. Whether they express anger or exhilaration, are meant to insult or to commend, swear words perform a crucial role in language. But swearing is also a uniquely well-suited lens through which to look at history, offering a fascinating record of what people care about on the deepest levels of a culture--what's divine, what's terrifying, and what's taboo. Holy Sh*t tells the story of two kinds of swearing--obscenities and oaths--from ancient Rome and the Bible to today. With humor and insight, Melissa Mohr takes readers on a journey to discover how "swearing" has come to include both testifying with your hand on the Bible and calling someone a *#$&!* when they cut you off on the highway.
