This American neo-noir, psychological thriller, tells the story of Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, two US marshals, who are sent to an asylum on a remote island to investigate the disappearance of a patient committed for murdering her two children. It is based on the 2003 novel by American writer Dennis Lehane. Lehane sought to write a novel where the main characters are in a difficult position and lacking 20th-century resources such as radio communications, to aid them in their journey. He described the novel as a hybrid of the works of the Brontë sisters and the 1956 film Invasion of the Body Snatchers and hoped that it would be an homage to Gothic settings, B movies, and pulp.

To prevent connections to the syndicate, a looper's final victim will be his or her retired future self (they are identified by gold bars strapped to them instead of silver), ending the contract and "closing the loop".

AFF: Minority Report 2002 (dir. Steven Spielberg) Rated 12
Minority Report is a 2002 American science fiction film directed by Steven Spielberg and loosely based on the short story of the same name by Philip K. Dick. It is set primarily in Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia in the year 2054, where "PreCrime", a specialized police department, apprehends criminals based on foreknowledge provided by three psychics called "precogs". The cast includes Tom Cruise as Chief of PreCrime John Anderton, Colin Farrell as Department of Justice agent Danny Witwer, Samantha Morton as the senior precog Agatha, and Max von Sydow as Anderton's superior Lamar Burgess. The film combines elements of tech noir, whodunit, thriller and science fiction genres, as well as a traditional chase film, as the main protagonist is accused of a crime he has not committed and becomes a fugitive. Spielberg has characterized the story as "fifty percent character and fifty percent very complicated storytelling with layers and layers of murder mystery and plot". The film's central theme is the question of free will versus determinism. It examines whether free will can exist if the future is set and known in advance. Other themes include the role of preventive government in protecting its citizenry, the role of media in a future state where technological advancements make its presence nearly boundless, the potential legality of an infallible prosecutor, and Spielberg's repeated theme of broken families.

A group of prostitutes, union workers, and drag queens all lead difficult lives within an existence of drugs, crime and violence in a working-class Brooklyn neighbourhood. Based on the 1964 novel by American author Hubert Selby Jr. The novel has become a cult classic because of its harsh, uncompromising look at lower class Brooklyn in the 1950s and for its brusque, everyman style of prose. Although critics and fellow writers praised the book on its release, Last Exit to Brooklyn caused much controversy because of its frank portrayals of taboo subjects, such as drug use, street violence, gang rape, homosexuality, transvestism and domestic violence. It was the subject of an important obscenity trial in the United Kingdom and was banned in Italy.

Monster 2003 (dir. Patty Jenkins) Rated 18 and Aileen Wuornos: The Selling of a Serial Killer / Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer 1993/2003 (dir. Nick Broomfield and Joan Churchill) Rated 18
Shortly after moving to Florida, longtime prostitute Aileen Wuornos (Charlize Theron) meets young and reserved Selby Wall (Christina Ricci) and a romance blossoms. When a john (Lee Tergesen) attempts to brutalize Aileen, she kills him and resolves to give up prostitution. But supporting herself and her new girlfriend through legitimate means proves extremely difficult, and she soon falls back on old ways. More johns die, and Selby can't help but think her new friend is responsible. Aileen Wuornos: The Selling of a Serial Killer - In this documentary, filmmaker Nick Broomfield follows the saga of Aileen Wuornos, a prostitute who has been accused of committing a brutal series of murders. Broomfield conducts interviews with Wuornos herself, and his crew films her trial as well as her interactions with religious fanatic Arlene Pralle, who gives Wuornos dubious advice and legally adopts her. The cameras also roll as the accused's attorney ignores the case at hand to negotiate a deal to sell his client's story. Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer - British documentarian Nick Broomfield creates a follow-up piece to his 1992 documentary of the serial killer Aileen Wuornos, a highway prostitute who was convicted of killing six men in Florida between 1989 and 1990. Interviewing an increasingly mentally unstable Wuornos, Broomfield captures the distorted mind of a murderer whom the state of Florida deems of sound mind -- and therefore fit to execute. Throughout the film, Broomfield includes footage of his testimony at Wuornos' trial.

TV: Marilyn and the Kennedys (Say Goodbye to the President) 1988 (dir. Christopher Olgiati) Unrated
SAY GOODBYE TO THE PRESIDENT is a 1988 British documentary that was, at the time of its release, quite controversial. Although potentially dismissible as mere "conspiracy theory," the cumulative effect of its many modern interviews with dozens of people directly and peripherally involved in events leading up to Marilyn Monroe's death create an air of believability. The most serious claim is that on the night in question, Monroe's housekeeper found the star ALIVE sometime around midnight. The 82-year-old lady herself here changes long-held testimony that she found MM quite dead and is backed up by owner of the responding ambulance. The revised story: a comatose Marilyn is removed to Santa Monica Hospital, and either dies there or during the ambulance ride. Next, Bobby Kennedy is given time to leave town, Peter Lawford (the last person to speak to MM on the phone) goes to her home and destroys a suicide note, then Monroe's body is returned to her bed. LAPD receives a call some four hours after all this began to unfold.
